Urbanization and its impact on metropolitan cities

08th August , 2020

Urbanization is continuously growing in Sri Lanka; the population of Colombo has increased by 1.16% since 2019. It comes with both pros and cons but in this modern era certain negative impacts of urbanization have been disproved. The common belief that urban areas contribute far more pollution may be misconstrued with studies showing that urban areas are more efficient and less effort is needed to provide basic necessities.

Urbanization also leads to a higher standard of living by having access to superior health facilities, a range of brands in a competitive market which results in receiving the best value for your money and a higher income. This comes about due to the majority of the corporate jobs being in the midst of urban areas and also the best education organizations are in the city which gives city dwellers a better education for better job opportunities. Statistics show that despite having a high population, the average income of the population of Colombo is higher than the average income of the population of Sri Lanka. 72.9% of the people in the top 20% in terms of income are from Colombo and from the population of Colombo 41.4% are in the top 20% in terms of income.

Despite popular belief, that there are less communities in urban life this could not be further from the truth. Vertical living is fast becoming popular and each complex is home to its own community where everyone is interdependent on each other as they share the same facilities and provide a sense of security for each other. These is non-inclusive of the 24/7 security that is provided for each and every complex without fail.

TRI-ZEN has combined the ideal location in the heart of Colombo along with a sense tranquility with their many facilities that they offer for relaxation such as Yoga and Meditation. There is easy access to schools, state of the art malls and is surrounded by many up-coming projects such as Colombo International Financial City or better known as Port City which will only add to the many benefits that urbanization has provided. TRI-ZEN has also ensured that their complex is affordable despite the many benefits they offer with the price starting from only LKR 26 million. The debate of the pros and cons of urbanization will be forever ongoing but one thing is clear, with TRI-ZEN the pros by far exceed the cons.
